Tips for measuring blood pressure

  1. Blood pressure can fluctuate over a very short period of time because it is affected by many factors. Blood pressure is usually lower in summer and higher in winter; it can be affected by atmospheric pressure and depends on many factors such as physical activity, emotional state, stress, meals and diet, etc. Different medications, alcohol and smoking can have a strong effect on blood pressure levels. Blood pressure measured in a hospital may be higher than at home because people feel more stressed in the hospital than at home. As blood pressure rises at low temperatures, it is recommended that it be measured at room temperature (approximately + 20 ° C). If the device is stored below room temperature, it should be allowed to warm to room temperature for at least 1 hour, otherwise the measurements may be inaccurate. Blood pressure can change easily, and its measurements can vary even within a day. The effect of various factors on blood pressure is individual for each person. It is therefore recommended that the results of blood pressure measurements be recorded.
  2. If monitoring of blood pressure is required for cardiovascular and other conditions, it is recommended that blood pressure be measured at intervals determined by the healthcare professional. Hypertension should only be diagnosed and treated by a qualified healthcare professional.
  3. Patients with a bright, weak pulse or irregular heartbeat may have difficulty taking an accurate measurement of their blood pressure. In such cases, the results of blood pressure measurements should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.
  4. Patients should be in a calm, relaxed position to obtain accurate blood pressure measurements. Take measurements in calm conditions at room temperature. You should not eat for 1 hour before the measurement, do not drink alcohol or smoke for 1.5-2 hours before the measurement, as these factors may affect the measurement.
  5. To ensure an accurate measurement, the bracelet should fit snugly in the forearm.
  6. For more accurate blood pressure measurements, at least 3 minutes should elapse between measurements, during which time blood circulation will be restored. In patients with severe arteriosclerosis and those who have had diabetes for a very long time, there should be an interval of at least 10-15 minutes between measurements, as their vascular elasticity may be severely reduced. To determine more accurate blood pressure, take a series of 3 measurements and calculate the average.
